‘Everton handed Idrissa Gueye boost after contract u-turn’
Everton have been handed a major boost as they look to keep midfielder Idrissa Gueye at the club beyond this summer.
The midfielder is currently three years into his second spell on Merseyside, after he rejoined the Toffees from Paris Saint-Germain back in 2022.
Last season, Gueye was a mainstay in the Everton team, starting 35 Premier League games as they ended the campaign 13th in the table.
Despite guiding his side to a comfortable league finish, David Moyes is set for a frantic summer transfer window, as he completes a squad overhaul ahead of the upcoming season.

Everton confident Gueye will stay
Gueye’s current contract at Everton runs out at the end of June, meaning the club has almost no time to strike a deal with the 35-year-old.
The Senegal international is one of a number of Moyes’ squad who see their contracts expiring in the next few days.
Just last week, it was thought that Gueye would be leaving Everton this summer, with a cluster of French clubs interested in his services.
However, according to The Times (27 June), the Toffees have offered the midfielder a new contract, and there is optimism that the situation will be resolved.

Everton race to secure Branthwaite contract
Football Insider Verdict
As well as Gueye, the Toffees are working to wrap up a new deal for one of their other star players, in the hopes of staving off any transfer interest.
Earlier this week (24 June), former Manchester United scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Everton were “confident” in their attempt to sign Branthwaite up to a long-term deal.
Then on Friday (27 June), Sky Sports‘ Lyall Thomas reported that Everton were “close to finalising” Branthwaite’s new contract at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and that an announcement could be made in the next week.
The 23-year-old has been the subject of interest from Chelsea, but the Toffees are now expected to tie the centre-back down to a new five-year deal.
It is a huge bonus for Moyes that he is likely to keep hold of one of his star men, and will allow the Scottish manager to build around the young Englishman.
