Everton handed 'massive' boost after 'huge' Calvert-Lewin update - pundit

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s potential return for Everton on Boxing Day is “massive” and could turn their season around, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Calvert-Lewin has been “such a big loss” for Everton.

The striker scored three goals in the opening three Premier League games this season but has not made a matchday squad since.

Everton won two of the three Premier League games he featured in but have only won three of the 14 fixtures without him.

Only summer signing Demarai Gray (five) have scored more Premier League goals than Calvert-Lewin for the Toffees this term despite his extended absence.

As quoted by BBC Sport today (22 December), Calvert-Lewin revealed he is hopeful of returning for the trip to Burnley on Sunday (26 December).

“Oh, that is massive,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He’s been such a big loss.

“That might be the difference that could help them get the wins that they need. Sometimes, one player can boost the whole team.

“They’ll start putting crosses back into the box, it will be massive to get him back.”

Calvert-Lewin scored 16 goals in 33 Premier League goals last term and earned himself a place in England’s squad for the European Championship.

He made two substitute appearances, including a 17-minute cameo in the quarter-final win over Ukraine, as England reached the final.

The 24-year-old is under contract at Goodison Park until the summer of 2025.
