Everton have ‘the worst’ options in the Premier League in one position, it ‘is letting them down’

Everton may not be able to progress up the Premier League table unless they fix one issue in their squad.

Tottenham’s 3-0 win at Everton consigned the Toffees to back-to-back Premier League defeats and leave David Moyes’ side in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

The defeat was Everton‘s first at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, where they have picked up eight of their 11 points this season.

Everton travel to surprise package Sunderland next, knowing that a third consecutive defeat could see them slip further towards the bottom three.

David Moyes has ‘among the worst’ centre forward options

Only the club’s currently occupying the bottom three have scored fewer goals than Everton’s nine this season.

Moyes plans to replace Beto in January, whilst summer arrival Thierno Barry has yet to score for the club since arriving from Villarreal.

Speaking to BBC Sport, [29 October], Phil McNulty believes Moyes must strengthen his attacking options in future transfer windows.

“If not the worst, then among the worst,” McNulty said of Everton’s current options up-front compared to what other Premier League club’s have available.

Beto is short of consistent Premier League class, struggles with hold up play and misses too many chances. Thierno Barry is, shall we say, a work in progress.

Everton spent £27m on Barry in the summer to bring him from Villarreal when there were already doubts over Beto’s pedigree. They bought a raw, developing player when they needed something nearer the finished article.

It is clear manager David Moyes shares those doubts from the number of times he has swapped them, for games and during games.

“It is an obvious flaw that is already costing Everton points. They have real creation with Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye, but the lack of a reliable striker is letting them down and will continue to do so.”

Everton’s goal scoring issues halting ambitions

Jack Grealish’s arrival at Everton was met with positivity from supporters that a season of looking up rather than down could be on the cards.

Grealish and Ndiaye have been bright sparks in attack, whilst Beto and Barry are failing to consistently convert the chances presented to them.

Such goal scoring issues will continue to hinder Everton as it has done in previous seasons, and any top 10 ambitions must be met with transfer activity to bring in a proven number nine.
