Kieran Maguire makes major Usmanov claim after confirmed Everton news
Alisher Usmanov has “eyes and ears” in crucial corridors of power at Everton after his nephew was hired by the board.
That is according to finance guru and Football Insider columnist Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively after the Toffees confirmed the appointment of Sarvar Ismailov on 14th July.
Ismailov, 26, has been promoted from sporting and commercial director for the club’s women’s team and will continue in his role on the stadium board.
Russian oligarch Usmanov is not formally involved in Everton’s executive branch but has strong links through sponsorship arrangements.
As revealed by Football Insider on 23rd June, the multi-billionaire championed Rafael Benitez for the manager’s job.
The ex-Liverpool boss was appointed seven days later.

Maguire claimed that it is no surprise to see Usmanov tightening his grip given the scale of his investment in the club.
“I think it shows that Usmanov wants a long-term relationship with Everton,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“He also wants eyes and ears at the club in terms of decision making. This gives him the opportunity to do that.
“He has been very generous with a variety of sponsorship deals. We’ve seen the MegaFon one for the women’s team, the rights for Finch Farm and probably the naming rights for the stadium as well.
“So given the extent of his financial support, even though he’s not a shareholder, I think he wants to make sure that the money is spent well.“
