‘Everton in disarray after confusing Friedkin move’ – Keith Wyness

Everton will embark on their first summer transfer window under The Friedkin Group (TFG) from next month following their takeover late last year.

However, the Toffees are currently light in several key recruitment areas – with director of football Kevin Thelwell already confirmed to be leaving the club for Rangers.

It has been widely reported that head of recruitment Dan Purdy is also set to leave, while academy head James Vaughan is also departing.

Everton are set for a major backroom rebuild but new chief executive Angus Kinnear is not slated to arrive from Leeds until the start of June.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted his old side are in “disarray” ahead of a “crucial” window for the club.

‘Everton’s chance is slipping by’, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted he is “confused” by the pace of hiring from new owners TFG.

Everton, who appointed David Moyes as manager earlier this year, will play Premier League football next term in their new Bramley Moore Dock stadium.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I’m confused with The Friedkin Group.

“They’ve not got the whole football recruitment side in place still, and we’re sitting here with a new chief executive not coming in until 1 June.

“May is a very crucial month to get things done, and we’re sitting here in disarray.

“The chance we have to get these people in place is slowly slipping by. It’s not great.

“Purdy is one I thought would’ve been part of that team, but it’s another new opening instead.

“It gives someone else the chance to come in and get it right. But that always means a bedding-in period, and Everton need to get it right this summer – it’s crucial.”

Everton freeze out Moyes in shock twist

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (8 May) that Everton have yet to speak to Moyes about his transfer budget, player signings or contracts going into the summer.

Fears are growing among Moyes and his coaching staff that he is being frozen out by the club’s US-based owners.

The Scot has Everton sitting 14th in the Premier League table with three games left of this season.
