Everton are in the hunt to sign Swansea playmaker Ki Sung-Yueng, according to a reliable journalist.

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solkehol claimed on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday that the Toffees have joined AC Milan and four other Premier League clubs in chasing down Ki, 29, as he will be available in the summer on a free transfer.

The South Korea international is just weeks away from his Liberty Stadium contract from expiring and it seems that Everton are ready to offer him the chance to stay in England’s top-flight.

Ki has been a mainstay for Swansea in the past few seasons.

The former Celtic midfielder has made 29 appearances in all competitions this term and scored two goals and supplied three assists.

He has had several injury issues, but has still played a key role in helping Carlos Carvahal stop the Swans from suffering relegation from the Premier League.

The Daily Star reported last year that Ki is earning £36,000-a-week on his deal at Swansea.

Football Insider verdict

Everton do not need to sign Ki and although he is available for free, players like Morgan Schneiderlin and Idrissa Gueye are much better options in the deeper-lying midfield roles. Ki has a lot of Premier League experience but he is not someone who will improve the Toffees squad. Steve Walsh must have his eye on better options ahead of the summer transfer window, mainly to sort out the fact that the side still leaks goals and doesn’t seem all too prolific at the other end of the pitch. If anything the centre of midfield and attacking midfield positions are some of the best stocked.
