Everton are in the hunt to sign Catania defender Luka Bodgan in the summer, according to a report.
Italian news outlet Tutto Mercato Web claims that the Toffees have Bodgan, 21, in their sights as the club begin to keep tabs on potential signings for the next transfer window.
The Croatian centre-back has been a mainstay for Catania in Serie C – C this season, with the club currently sitting second in the table as they aim to return to Serie B.
The 6ft 4in colossus has made 25 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal in the process.
He has also made one appearance on the left-wing in a 3-0 win over league leaders Lecce, which suggests that he is left-footed.
Everton’s transfer plans for the summer may completely hinge on whether Sam Allardyce remains in charge after an underwhelming reign at Goodison Park.
Director of football Steve Walsh is still expected to have a big say in any done deals though, even though many of last summer’s signings have gone down as total flops so far.
Football Insider verdict
At the age of 21, Bodgan looks as though he is ready to go to the next level after a successful season with Catania. However leaping up to the Premier League is quite a sizeable jump for the Croatian centre-back. Walsh did make efforts to add to the Under-23s squad in the summer so it may be that Bogdan is not being eyed up as a first-team back-up option and rather just to be added to David Unsworth’s development side. If so, it would be best to avoid him as there are surely better young talents that are being developed in the academy right now.
