Everton in pole position to sign Mason Melia – Exclusive

Everton are in pole position to sign Irish teenage sensation Mason Melia, sources have told Football Insider.

The young forward, 16, is regarded as one of the best young talents to emerge from Ireland after impressing for Dublin-based outfit St Patrick’s Athletic.

A number of the Premier League’s top sides have been credited with an interest in the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, but Everton are pushing to win the race for his signature.

Talks are underway over a deal ahead of the summer window as the Merseysiders work on finalising a deal.

Everton in talks to sign Mason Melia

Melia joined St Partick’s youth set-up in 2022 and quickly impressed before making his first-team debut in the Leinster Senior Cup in January last year.

From the bench, he scored a consolation goal in their 3-1 defeat to Wexford but became St Patrick’s youngest-ever player and goalscorer aged 15 years and 132 days.

Across 20 senior outings in all competitions for the club, he has scored four goals and provided two assists.

Melia was eyed by Everton’s arch-rivals Liverpool in March last year, with Football Insider revealing at the time that they had a strong interest in a move following his impressive performances.

In August 2023, he reportedly had trials with Premier League giants Man City.

Melia was in the squad for the Republic of Ireland at the under-17s Euros in May last year.

He started every game and bagged two goals and two assists in their final group-stage game against Hungary before being eliminated in the quarter-finals by Spain.

He penned his first professional contract at St Patrick’s in November which tied him down to the Richmond Park side until the end of the 2026 season.
