Everton are interested in signing prolific goalscorer Bas Dost from Portuguese giants Sporting, according to a report.
It is understood that La Liga outfit Sevilla have sent agents to try negotiate a deal for the 29-year-old and appear to be frontrunners.
The report details that the Holland international could be available this summer for free if he rips up his contract with Sporting, something ex-teammates have done after altercations last month between fans and players.
Football Insider verdict:
Dost was a goal machine in the 2017/18 season for Sporting and scored a phenomenal 34 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions. The target man has proven he can be a reliable finisher in front of goal and could be exactly the type of figure that could become a cult hero at Goodison Park. He has now scored a staggering 70 goals in just 90 games for Sporting, but achieving in Portugal doesn’t necessarily mean he will be able to have the same kind of success in England. Dost has been a reliable goalscorer in the Portuguese, German and Dutch leagues in the past, but the Premier League is a different animal. Everton do need some extra firepower in attack if they are going to get back into European spots next season and it would be a no-brainer to sign Dost if he did become available this summer.
In other Everton news, they must abandon their £40m pursuit and turn their attention to a Championship flyer.
