Medical insider issues ‘huge’ Neal Maupay claim as new Everton details emerge
Neal Maupay’s arrival at Everton will be “huge” in easing the pressure to bring back Dominic Calvert-Lewin from injury prematurely.
That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.
Maupay, 26, signed for the Toffees from Brighton for around £15million last Friday (26 August), and the club confirmed he is in the squad to face Leeds United on Tuesday (30 August).
Fellow centre-forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin, for whom the last 12 months have been blighted by injury, is still not yet ready to return from his knee issue.
As quoted by club media last Friday (26 August), Frank Lampard revealed that the 25-year-old is “ahead of schedule” but also stressed the need for caution.
And the Maupay signing will allow the manager to let Calvert-Lewin fully recuperate before reintroducing him, insists Dinnery.
“We are talking about a player who has such a heavily disrupted 12 months with various setbacks,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“You really have to manage him with kid gloves. He’s had 15 Premier League starts, only a third of minutes played, and seven time-loss injuries in the last 12 months. He just hasn’t been able to stay fit.

“The arrival of Neal Maupay could be huge in helping ease that burden. Lampard can maybe resist the urge to throw him in there too quickly.
“But as long as results continue to go against the Toffees and the pressure builds, that’s when they will want to bring Calvert-Lewin back in. That’s what they are missing.”
