Everton insider shares major transfer update amid ‘inevitable’ Chris Rigg bids news

Everton are one of the many teams keeping an eye on Sunderland gem Chris Rigg with a major new transfer update emerging from the club ahead of the summer.

The 17-year-old midfielder is currently one of the hottest prospects in the Championship, becoming a key figure for the Black Cats, and notching seven goals and one assist in 65 senior appearances.

Tottenham and Man United are two Premier League clubs to have taken notice of the youngster’s exploits in the second tier of English football, with the Toffees also joining the race for his signature this summer.

The Friedkin Group’s takeover at Everton has offered a newfound hope in the transfer market, having suffered so badly in financial terms during Farhad Moshiri’s reign at Goodison Park.

Now, with just weeks left until the season ends and the summer transfer window opens, the Toffees’ future plans are becoming more obvious, and Rigg could be a part of them should he make the switch.

Everton set their eyes on Chris Rigg as Sunderland exit expected

Sources told i News (14 April) that Everton are looking to strengthen in “every single department” following TFG’s takeover, with Rigg being seen as perfect for Moyes’ style of play.

It is understood that Sunderland are yet to receive any bids, but sources have suggested that offers are “inevitable” ahead of the summer transfer window, with West Ham, Crystal Palace, and Newcastle also watching him along with Liverpool.

His exit from the Stadium of Light becomes even more likely should Regis Le Bris be unable to drag the Black Cats out of the Championship this season, while the Toffees’ involvement in the picture is seen as “intriguing” in the context of their long-awaited new financial muscle.

Everton are reportedly planning to drive down the average age of their squad, and have also looked at fellow Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil.

David Moyes to rebuild Everton squad ahead of 2025/26 campaign

Rigg could be just one of multiple high-profile signings at the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium this summer, with the Toffees needing every chance of escaping the relegation battle next season.

Despite losing just two of their last 13 league matches, far too many of them have been draws, but it has been a breath of fresh air for the supporters not to suffer more defeats following Sean Dyche‘s sorry exit.

Everton have already been warned against Dominic Calvert-Lewin signing a new deal, and that could be the start of a new era on Merseyside, with the striker having been with the club since 2016.

Beto has sparked into life since Moyes’ arrival, but even he could be set for a spot on the bench again if TFG throw caution to the wind and spend big during the summer.

It is a truly exciting time for the supporters, who have been devoid of positives for many years, and links with Rigg will only get them even more pumped before the season ends in a few weeks.
