Kenny suggests real reason Everton-Nuno talks collapsed after what he heard from Warnock

Nuno Espirito Santo’s backroom staff are not a likeable bunch – and that may be the real reason he has not been appointed Everton manager.

That is according to ex-Sheffield United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively after Football Insider today revealed that Nuno has agreed to join Crystal Palace ahead of the Toffees.

The ex-Wolves boss, 47, had been the frontrunner for the vacant post at Goodison Park and was offered the chance to take over at the weekend.

But this site revealed on Monday that the size of Nuno’s unusually large preferred backroom staff proved a stumbling block.

Kenny claims Everton may not want to completely uproot things just 18 months after Carlo Ancelotti was appointed by hiring a whole new behind-the-scenes team.

He also suggests that the character of Nuno‘s desired staff could have something to do with the breakdown between himself and the club.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “They may not want to back down from the decision they made by going down the Ancelotti route. They’ve set off going that way.

“If Nuno wants to bring his own staff in and they don’t want that, you may need to look elsewhere.

“Warnock had some not-so-nice words to say about Nuno’s staff on Soccer Saturday. He said he’d never known a set of staff like them, jumping up and claiming for literally every decision.

“So they may not be well-liked if that’s the case. That could have something to do with it.

“Managers like to bring their own staff in so it might actually be tough to get someone in. It must be difficult going into a new club with all the old staff there.”
