Everton make move to sign Wilfried Gnonto after green light – sources

Everton are in contact with Wilfried Gnonto’s camp over a proposed move to Goodison Park, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League club are increasingly confident of securing a deal for the 20-year-old this summer after getting the green light from the player.

According to sources, the Leeds United star has told his representatives that he’s keen on joining the Merseysiders.

Everton are expected to make a formal move for the winger after they have completed the transfer of Amadou Onana to Aston Villa.

Football Insider revealed on Monday that talks between the Premier League sides are at an advanced stage over a £50million deal.

The completion of that signing will increase the funds available and allow the Merseyside club to focus on bringing Gnonto to Goodison Park.

Everton could finally land Wilfried Gnonto after a lengthy interest

Everton’s interest in signing Gnonto is longstanding, as the club attempted to sign the Italian last summer.

The Premier League outfit had a bid of £25million rejected by the Whites last summer, despite the winger effectively going on strike to push through a deal.

Gnonto submitted a transfer request to Leeds United in a bid to push his club into a sale, but the Championship club opted to keep hold of their man.

The right-winger went on to play a crucial role in Leeds United’s failed attempts to gain promotion back to the Premier League.

Gnonto scored nine goals and provided three assists across 44 games in all competitions.
