This Everton star will be delighted by new of Romero offer - McAvennie
Jordan Pickford and Everton would relish the competition that Sergio Romero can provide between the sticks.
That is according to ex-West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively after Football Insider revealed on 28th June that the 96-cap Argentina goalkeeper is weighing up a lucrative offer from the Toffees.
The 34-year-old is available on a free transfer after being let go by Man United following a fallout with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Everton attempted to sign Romero on loan last year but United were reluctant to lend a player to a team considered rivals for a top-four spot.
Pickford started 31 league matches last term with Robin Olsen, who returned to Roma following his loan at Goodison, starting the remaining seven.
McAvennie claimed that healthy competition is vital for success and will be appreciated by Pickford.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “I think you can’t beat that competition in football. It’s the main focus in the game, really.
“Honestly, it’s great for the club that there’s competition. Pickford has maybe had it too easy.
“It’s good banter in the training room and when they are training. He might come in and say: ‘I’m going to take your number one spot’.
“It’s healthy banter and you can’t beat that, to be honest. Pickford will appreciate it.“
Romero joined United as a free agent after his deal with Sampdoria expired in 2015.
He has featured 61 times in total for the club.
