Kieran Maguire moots 'spiralling costs' after 'critical' Everton news confirmed

Everton have appointed a finance specialist to the board in order to avoid “spiralling costs” from the construction of their new stadium.

So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Everton announced Grant Ingles’ appointment on 14th July.

He joins the panel of directors alongside Everton benefactor Alisher Usmanov’s nephew, Sarvar Ismailov.

Ingles’ is the club’s finance director and his association with Everton has spanned 15 years.

He is also, along with Ismailov, on the stadium board that legislates on matters regarding the club’s on-site facilities.

The move to the new Bramley-Moore Dock site is set for 2024 and Maguire argues that appointing Ingles to lead the transition is a shrewd more.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “Everton have effectively got the first forks in the ground as far as the stadium construction is concerned.

“So budgetary control of the stadium project is really critical. Having someone who knows his way around that is very, very important.

“We saw with the Spurs stadium that costs kept spiraling. While the stadium itself is absolutely stunning, the costs were very high.

“Having someone there to ensure that costs don’t go above budget makes sense. So every pound you keep to budget on the stadium side of things is one you take away from the playing side of things.

“That, of course, is absolutely essential for Everton, who are a very ambitious club.”
