Everton may need to hand Gordon run of starts after 'game-changing' reveal - pundit

Rafa Benitez needs to give Anthony Gordon a run of games to prove he can be a game-changing player for Everton, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker suggested Gordon has lacked consistency this season and a run of starts could help him find that.

As quoted by the Daily Mail (November 9), the 20-year-old revealed he saw himself as a “game-changer and a matchwinner” at Everton.

He followed that up by scoring a brace on his England Under-21s debut against the Czech Republic two days later.

Domestically, Gordon has featured in nine games across all competitions this term but has made just three Premier League starts.

“I’ve seen bits of him and he’s been good but he’s not been consistent,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“That’s what you’ve got to do, as a young player you’ve got to show consistency when you get into the first team at your club. He hasn’t done that.

“Hopefully he gets a chance to do that but he probably needs to show a bit more when he does play for Everton. Otherwise, he’ll keep being in and out of the team.

“I watched him for England Under-21s and he did very well. Sometimes, when I played for England Under-21s, nobody really gives you any plaudits for that.

“Some of the Under-21s teams are really, really poor and the team England played were one of those. You can’t really read that much into that.

“He’s around the first team at Everton so he’s doing something right, he just needs to be more consistent when he starts.”

In other news, Everton could be forced to sell Richarlison after a £35m reveal from Kieran Maguire.
