‘Everton mischief behind Jurgen Klopp rumours – so many managers have told me’
Jurgen Klopp left Liverpool 12 months ago but has been widely linked with a return to the dugout in recent weeks.
It has been reported in Italy that Klopp, 57, is closing in on a move to Serie A side Roma – who are the sister club of Everton due to their shared Friedkin Group ownership.
However, the Liverpool legend has dismissed the rumours – telling an LFC Foundation gala last week: “I’m not going to Roma. If you come across any rumours suggesting that I will take a coaching job in the next few years, it’s bull***.”
Klopp, who won the Premier League and Champions League at Anfield, took the role as Global Sports Director at Red Bull in January.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has had his say on the shocking rumours.

‘Klopp will return eventually’, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed he “wouldn’t be surprised” if “Everton mischief” was behind the Roma links.
The Friedkin Group took over at Everton in December 2024 and have owned Roma since August 2020.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It certainly shocked me when I heard about this.
“There have been counterclaims from Klopp, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s some Everton mischief behind this.
“I don’t really see it happening, he’s denying it.
“There are a lot of rumours about him coming back into the game. So many managers have told me that they need to get back in for their own mental health.
“He’s doing the Red Bull work, but it would make sense for him to come back eventually.
“If it was with Roma, he would be having to help Everton as a sister club – and that would bring a smile to many faces.
“Let’s see. Roma would be a great club for him to come back into. He could keep his promise about not managing against Liverpool in the Premier League.
“There would be a close connection with Everton, which would lead to all sorts of humour – let’s say.”
