‘Everton move for David Moyes favourite Tomas Soucek goes cold at West Ham’

Everton have been linked to signing Tomas Soucek from West Ham this summer in a move to reunite him with his former Hammers boss David Moyes, and a new update has now emerged on the subject.

This summer will be a big one for the Toffees, as they leave Goodison Park to move to their new stadium on Bramley-Moore Dock.

It will also be a summer of change on the pitch, as numerous Everton players are set to see contracts or loans expire at the club, meaning they are facing an exodus of players.

If those deals are not extended, then multiple replacements will have to be brought to the club to fill the voids left by those who move on.

For now though, it appears as though the Toffees are yet to make their play to sign Soucek, who has already been regularly touted for a move to Merseyside.

Tomas Soucek exit from West Ham update emerges

Football Insider has been told that Everton have explored a deal to sign Soucek from West Ham in the summer transfer window.

The Czech appears surplus to requirements under Graham Potter but was a regular under Moyes when the Scot was in charge at the London Stadium.

However it appears the Merseyside club have yet to act on that interest in signing the 30-year-old from their Premier League rivals.

According to the latest update from the Liverpool Echo, while the West Ham midfielder is a “favourite” of Moyes’ due to his physical strength and ability to find the net, Everton are yet to make any early moves to try and secure the signing of Soucek this summer.

The Czech international has two years remaining on his contract at the London Stadium, meaning the Toffees would have to pay a fee to secure his services.

Everton hesitancy over transfer deal is understandable

Football Insider Verdict

It feels like not rushing into a deal to sign Soucek is the right approach for the Toffees to take at this moment in time.

With so many players due to leave the club in the summer, Everton are going to have to manage their finances sensibly this summer, to make sure they do not leave themselves short in any position.

As a result, they are not going to want to commit too many funds to someone such as Soucek, when they also need to invest elsewhere in the market.

That is particularly the case when you consider the fact he has been in a struggling West Ham side this season, and that at 30-years-old he is not the most profitable or long-term option.

Indeed, Football Insider understands Everton are yet to speak to Moyes about their transfer plans for the window.

Given their connection means a move for Soucek would likely be driven by the Toffees boss, this update may not be a huge surprise.
