Sources: Idrissa Gueye move to Everton in danger of collapse after new twist

Idrissa Gana Gueye’s proposed return to Everton from Paris Saint-Germain is in danger of collapsing, sources have told Football Insider.

The midfielder, 32, is on the transfer list at PSG and is trying to cancel his contract at the club to enable him to complete a move to Everton.

He has already agreed terms with the Merseysiders and the deal is all ready and in place.

But it is understood that PSG are currently unwilling to meet Gueye’s financial demands to leave ahead of Thursday’s transfer cut-off.

Everton could be forced to pull the plug on the deal for the Senegal international and look elsewhere for a new central midfielder.

Gueye’s deal at the Parc de Princes is due to expire at the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

He has been with the French giants since he signed from Everton for around £30million in 2019.

The 94-cap Senegal international has turned out 111 times in total for the PSG, although none of those appearances have come this term.

Gueye has won Ligue 1 and the French Cup three times each, and he was an instrumental part of the side that lifted the Africa Cup of Nations in February.

Everton

Everton are saddled with concerns about Financial Fair Play but have still completed the signings of Amadou Onana, Dwight McNeil and Neal Maupay for big fees this summer.

James Tarkowski meanwhile joined on a free following the expiration of his Burnley contract, while Conor Coady and Ruben Vinagre have signed on loan.

In other news, Kieran Maguire forecasts Everton to “circumvent” Premier League ban as “highly volatile” details emerge.
