Everton ‘nailed on’ for new punishment as their woes continue – sources
Everton are “nailed on” to be hit with at least a fine over an unresolved matter regarding costs for their new stadium, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Toffees look set to face a financial punishment, but it would not be enforced until next season.
Sean Dyche’s side are currently in a dispute with the Premier League over the status of certain costs associated with their new stadium on Bramley-Moore Dock.
On Monday (8 April), the Toffees were handed a two-point deduction after they breached the allowed losses threshold of £105million in the three-year period to the 2022-23 season by £16.6million.
Everton will face fine over £6.5million Premier League dispute
But the club have argued that £6.5million of this overspend should not be attributable to profit and sustainability as it should be audited in their stadium accounts and not registered as a loss on their books.
A subsequent hearing into this matter is expected in the near future.
However, well-placed sources have told Football Insider that it will land the Merseysiders a financial penalty – adding to their continued woes off the pitch.
Football Insider also revealed (14 April) that this matter could also see them face a third points deduction depending on the results of the hearing.
The club have faced a combined 8-point deduction this season for overspending which has put their Premier League status under significant threat.

They sit 16th in the Premier League table after their 1-0 win against fellow relegation battlers Burnley on Saturday (6 April), but they are still only two points ahead of 18th-place Luton Town.
They are next in action against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday night (15 April).
