Everton news: Nathan Patterson tipped to flourish after ‘brilliant’ news from Goodison – pundit

Noel Whelan has insisted Ashley Cole’s arrival at Everton is “brilliant” news for Nathan Patterson.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 20-year-old could flourish under the former England international’s tutelage.

Everton confirmed on Wednesday (3 February) that Cole has joined Frank Lampard’s backroom staff.

The former left-back was part of Chelsea’s academy staff before making the move to Goodison Park.

Whelan heralded the 41-year-old’s appointment and suggested Patterson would benefit greatly.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “We saw the benefit for Calvert-Lewin when Duncan Ferguson took over.

“It was clear, working with him, how much better he got as a striker. They’ve got a midfield player who’s going to get the best out of Dele Alli and the rest of the midfield players.

“Now you’ve got a full-back who has won the Premier League and the Champions League. It’s brilliant.

“How can you not learn and get better off these kinds of players? They’re going to bring that wealth of experience and their coaching techniques.

“Especially for Patterson, who’s young already, he can be developed by somebody that played in that sort of role.

“Ashley Cole, still with the England setup as well. They’re bringing so much experience to the backroom staff. It can only benefit the players that are there.

“They’re all winners and they won’t accept anything less than 100 per cent.”

Patterson joined Everton from Rangers last month.

He is still yet to make his first start for the Toffees, having been named on the bench against Brentford on Saturday.
