Keith Wyness slaughters chiefs after Everton points deduction twist – ‘everyone is saying it’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed the Premier League has “lost a lot of credibility” after their handling of the Toffees’ points deduction.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted his former side should have been handed an initial six-point deduction, rather than 10.

Everton were given a 10-point penalty for breaching the league’s Profitability and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) in November – and the Merseysiders appealed in December.

An independent commission upheld the appeal in February, reducing the deduction to six points.

However, this week, Nottingham Forest were given a deduction of just four points for breaching PSR by £34.5million.

Premier League has lost ‘a lot of credibility’ with Everton blunder, says Wyness

Everton’s breach amounted to just £19.5million – and Sean Dyche’s side now face a separate charge for the 2022-23 campaign.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It seems the way that the decisions have been so different in each case.

“Everton, in the end, decided to plead guilty in the first case. They were very helpful in terms of access for the Premier League.

“The 10 points was reduced to six after appeal, when it should have been six points from the start.

“That is really where we are coming to now.

“The whole process has lost the Premier League a lot of credibility. I’m not the only one who thinks so, everyone is saying it.”
