Everton news: Pundit issues bold prediction ahead of Leeds clash as he tips outright winner
Everton will beat Leeds United on Saturday and give themselves a major boost as they look to avoid relegation.
That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Toffees’ suffered a significant setback this week.
Everton lost 3-1 to Newcastle on Tuesday (8 February), leaving them two points off the relegation zone.
They do have two games in hand on 18th-placed Norwich but Frank Lampard’s side have only won one of their last 15 league games.
Saturday (12 February) brings a crunch game against Leeds United, who sit four points and one place above the Toffees in the league.
McAvennie is sure Everton will win and put any relegation fears behind them.
“I have no worries about that,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“I look at Everton and they have more than enough there compared to some of the other teams down there.
“Leeds don’t have a striker really, so they should be able to keep them quiet.
“Beating Leeds also drags them into the relegation picture so they really need to win this one.
“But I have no worries, I think they will turn up and beat Leeds. I have nothing against Leeds, I’m just calling it how I see it.
“I just think Everton have the right stuff to get away from danger. Lampard is a good manager and he has some great players.
“These are the games they need to win though and I’m certain they will.”

Speaking at his press conference on Monday (7 January), Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa revealed there has been no improvement on Bamford’s foot injury in recent weeks.
Dan James started as a striker as the Whites drew 3-3 with Aston Villa on Wednesday (9 February).
