Everton next manager: Duo tipped to reunite in stunning twist

Gareth Southgate and Dan Ashworth have been backed to reunite with each other at Everton in the near future.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson made it clear that they’d be a “good fit” together working under the new regime at the Merseyside club.

The Friedkin Group officially took over Everton this week which could lead to wholesale changes taking place in the near future as they look to put their stamp on the club.

Southgate and Ashworth previously worked together from 2013 to 2018 at the Football Association, and both men are currently available following their spells with England and Man United respectively.

However, Everton are currently in no rush to make an immediate decision as Football Insider revealed Sean Dyche will not be sacked immediately after the takeover as the decision on his future could take time.

“Dan Ashworth’s going and he’s a good fit with Dan Ashworth, isn’t he,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“Because we know the relationship that those two have already got.

“I don’t think he’d come as any surprise if Sean didn’t leave his post at the end of his contract.

“There’s a lot of unrest about Everton fans the way that they are, the way that they’re watching the team, and they’re not enjoying watching the team.

“You’re not going to go down with him in charge.

“Gareth Southgate would be a good fit with Dan Ashworth under a whole new regime and a whole new structure.”
