Everton now a transfer destination – ‘That’s a landing spot I’d like to go to’

Everton will be an appealing destination for potential signings come the summer transfer window, Darren Bent has said.

The Toffees have been in resurgent form since the return of David Moyes to replace Sean Dyche as manager last month.

After Everton beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at Selhurst Park on Saturday (15 February), they have now taken 13 points from their last five league games.

That has moved the club up to 14th in the Premier League table, 13 points clear of the relegation zone as things stand.

What makes that even more impressive is that Everton did not live up to expectations in the January transfer window, with midfielder Charly Alcaraz their only senior signing.

Bent though, believes the differing circumstances that the club will find themselves in come the summer, means the Toffees can be more active in the market at that point.

Everton tipped to attract new signings come the summer

With the club now in a position where they look to be closing in on Premier League safety, Bent believes they will be looking to push on even further next season.

Of course, Everton are also due to move into their new stadium on Bramley Moore Dock for the 2025/26 campaign.

Kevin Thelwell’s Everton contract is yet to be renewed for the summer transfer window.

All of that means the former England international feels more players will be keen to join the Toffees ahead of next season.

Howver, Bent also questioned what they might mean for others at Everton such as the injured Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is out of contract in the summer.

While speaking on talkSPORT about what the Merseyside club’s aims should be for next season, the ex-Tottenham and Aston Villa striker said: “Of course there’s going to be a lot of moving parts in the summer, Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract is up, what’s that scenario about?

“So I definitely think they’re going to have to make decisions on certain players as well, they’re going to have to bring players in, but the fact they’re going to be playing Premier League football next season, they’re going to a shining new stadium. The confidence is flowing. David Moyes back at the helm.

“I think they’ll have suitors, I think people will be like ‘do you know what, that’s a landing spot I’d like to go to.”

Friedkin Group will be aiming for a busy summer

Football Insider Verdict

Since the Friedkin Group completed their takeover of Everton back in the summer, those connected with the club are widely expecting to see it in a more stable position financially.

That ought to allow the Toffees to operate more effectively in the transfer market, although it was still a quiet window in January.

In order to avoid any concerns developing, the Friedkins will therefore surely be keen to bring more players in once the market reopens at the end of the season.

Everton look like they could enjoy success in the Premier League again under Moyes, and with an exciting new stadium to play in, there are certainly aspects that make the club appealing to potential signings.

The new owners will therefore surely have to take advantage of that to give the club the best chance of moving forward, and to keep the supporters happy and optimistic.

If they manage to do that, then with what they have to offer to potential signings, the summer transfer window could be a rather enjoyable one for Everton.
