Odds slashed: Everton firm favourites to sign assist machine
By Russell Edge
Everton have been made firm favourites by the bookmakers to clinch the signing of Swansea midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson.
SkyBet place the Toffees at 11/4 to secure the Icelandic international’s signature, putting them far ahead of the chasing pack.
The odds have been slashed by bookies since last month, when they placed Everton at 8/1, while former favourites West Ham have dropped from 5/1 to 7/1.
The Hammers are followed by recently promoted Newcastle (9/1) and Claude Puel’s Southampton (14/1)
The news comes following reports from the Sunday Express that the Toffees are prepared to splash the cash on the 27-year-old and offer him wages of up to £140,000-a-week.

Ronald Koeman was reportedly interested in securing the services of Sigurdsson last summer before having an enquiry rebuffed in January, and it looks as if the Dutch manager will try and tempt him away from Swansea once again.
Sigurdsson has had an outstanding campaign, scoring eight goals and supplying 12 assists from 34 Premier League matches.
Only Kevin de Bruyne of Manchester City has provided more assists in 2017-18.
Football Insider verdict:
This betting update should have Everton fans rubbing their hands together with glee. Sigurdsson is a proven Premier League talent and would offer any side not just his undoubted quality but his impeccable work ethic. He has shone for Swansea during their relegation battle, and has almost single-handedly revived their fortunes under new boss Paul Clement. However, it appears he is ready to depart the club for a second time, but must be wise in choosing his next club. In Everton, he would not be hampered by huge expectations, but would still be in a side able to compete at the top of the table.
In other Everton transfer news, the club are looking to break the bank with a £60m deal for a 25-year-old defender.
