Everton have offered a staggering £8million signing-on fee to Jack Wilshere in a bid to win the race for his signature this summer, according to a report.
The Daily Star claim the Merseysiders are willing to spend big to persuade the diminutive Arsenal playmaker to follow Theo Walcott to Goodison Park.
It is said that the massive signing-on fee is already on the table and Everton are also ready to pay Wilshere more than his current £120,000-a-week salary.
The Star report that there is competition for the England international’s future from West Ham, Juventus and AC Milan.
Wilshere is out of contract at Arsenal in the summer and has been offered an extension by his boyhood club but it would mean him taking a 25 per cent salary cut.
Football Insider verdict:
These are jawdropping numbers from Everton, who are cash rich and safe in the knowledge that there will be no transfer fee for the 26-year-old. Wilshere has showed signs this season of finally overcoming the injury problems that have decimated a career that once promise to make him a global great. He has made 31 appearances for the Gunners and been one of the team’s best players since the turn of the year. The Arsenal academy product has the touch, vision and class to improve an Everton midfield that has looked short of calibre this season. He would be a fine signing provided – and it is a big ‘if’ – he steers clear of major injuries.
