Everton are interested in signing defender Marvin Plattenhardt from Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin, according to a report.
Sky Sports claims that the Toffees are keen on landing the 26-year-old full-back and have placed him on their summer transfer radar.
It is understood that Watford were keen on landing the left-sided flyer, but now look set to secure Adam Masina as an alternative.
Plattenhardt is currently preparing for the World Cup this summer with reigning champions Germany and is a highly-rated player that is renowned as an attacking defender.
Football Insider verdict:
Everton need to begin thinking about life after Leighton Baines and adding a quality left-back to compete with him next season makes perfect sense. New Toffees manager Marco Silva will be making a brilliant signing if the German switches to Goodison Park and he could be a long-term solution in the backline for the side. Plattenhardt often likes to bomb forward into the final third and managed eight assists in 38 appearances across all competitions in the recent season for Hertha. He is also a set-piece specialist that has shown during his career he is clinical from free-kicks and has a lot of similarities to Baines that would make him a strong favourite at the Merseyside club. It is unclear if Everton stand a good chance to sign the defender and a strong World Cup could see more eyes glance over him, but he is certainly a promising transfer target to have in mind.
In other Everton news, they must abandon their £40m pursuit and turn their attention to a Championship flyer.
