‘Everton plot Callum Wilson move with Dominic Calvert-Lewin replacement found’

Everton are looking to secure a deal for a Premier League striker after the departure of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Calvert-Lewin left Everton as a free agent after nine years on Merseyside after joining the club from Sheffield United in 2016.

The 28-year-old has struggled with injuries which has limited his impact for the Toffees over the past couple of seasons.

He has scored 71 goals in 273 games for the club, but could only register three goals and three assists last season in 26 appearances.

Everton struggled for goals last season, scoring 42 in 38 Premier League games, and Moyes needs to add more firepower to his ranks ahead of their first season at the brand new Hill Dickinson stadium.

Wilson lined up as Calvert-Lewin replacement

Manager David Moyes is looking to swoop for Wilson, who is another free agent after leaving Newcastle.

Wilson has also found game time difficult to come by due to injuries, and he was behind Alexander Isak in the pecking order at St James’ Park.

The Sun (1 July) reports Wilson is seen as a replacement for Calvert-Lewin, and Moyes believes Beto could be a key player for the club next season.

Beto scored 12 goals in all competitions last season which was double the tally he recorded in the previous campaign.

Moyes needs another striker to compete with Beto next season and the Scot is turning to the experienced Wilson to provide that.

Wilson’s Premier League record shows he knows where the back of the net is, but the 33-year-old didn’t score in 18 league appearances last season.

The England international has been behind Isak at Newcastle so opportunities have been limited for the former Bournemouth striker.

With regular playing time, Moyes will hope Wilson can rediscover his goal scoring touch as the Toffees need to become a bigger threat in front of goal next season.

Moyes needs to add more creativity to his squad and Ipswich winger Omari Hutchinson is linked with a move after rejecting the chance to bring Richarlison back to Merseyside.

Everton have an experienced side and a strong foundation defensively so the club should not be worried about a relegation scrap next season if they bring in attacking reinforcements.
