Everton plotting to sign Max Lowe from Sheffield United – sources

Everton are plotting a move to sign Sheffield United defender Max Lowe this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Lowe, 27, will be available on a free transfer when he leaves the Blades at the end of June upon the expiry of his current contract.

The left-back made his return from an ankle injury at Goodison Park in the final weeks of the season, making just ten appearances in the Premier League campaign.

His free agent status has made him an attractive option for Everton, with the club attempting to manage their concerns over profit and sustainability rules.

Another unnamed Premier League club is prepared to rival the Toffees’ interest.

Everton want to sign Max Lowe from Sheffield United

Lowe has struggled with injuries since joining Sheffield United in 2020, making just 53 appearances, while spending one season on loan with Nottingham Forest, where he featured 23 times.

He played a key part in Sheffield United’s promotion to the Premier League in the 2022-23 season, making 32 appearances and providing seven assists from left-back.

With only ten appearances to his name last time out, the defender hopes to find more consistency with his new club, and to put his injury concerns behind him.

As revealed by Football Insider on 14 May, Lowe is attracting interest from multiple Championship clubs after suffering relegation with the Blades.

Everton present the main Premier League option, although their interest is rivalled, with Sean Dyche keen to strengthen his squad depth.

Vitaliy Mykolenko has been the Toffees’ first-choice left-back, with 28 Premier League appearances in the just-finished season, with Lowe expected to provide competition.

In other news, Keith Wyness has warned Everton’s takeover is now certain to fall through.
