Everton points deduction: Keith Wyness stunned by twist – ‘all of a sudden…’

Former Everton chief Keith Wyness believes the club could lodge a new appeal against their points deduction which would continue into the summer.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed that the Premier League could “cut corners” in the appeal hearing after it was revealed that it will take just seven weeks to complete.

Everton are in the process of appealing their two-point deduction received after a breach of Profit and Sustainability Rules in their 2022-23 accounts.

The Merseyside club successfully appealed their first PSR breach and reduced an initial 10-point deduction down to six points earlier this season.

The appeal verdict was initially expected on May 24 – five days after the end of the Premier League season.

Everton appeal fast-tracked but could still ‘linger’ into summer

However, the Premier League are now looking to fast-track the process to provide clarity for positions on the final day of the season.

Wyness told the Inside Track podcast that Everton could lodge another appeal against their first appeal if they deem the Premier League to have cut corners.

What’s interesting about this is now they’re looking at getting the appeal done within seven weeks of it being lodged,” He said.

The last appeal took 14 weeks, so all of a sudden the Premier League is saying that this can be done in seven weeks.

Well, why wasn’t it done in seven weeks before?

And secondly, if they are going to cut corners, does that mean that there could be another appeal against the appeal if the due process isn’t right?

This could certainly linger on beyond the season.
