Everton points deduction: New appeal plan is revealed – sources

Everton hope that they will reclaim one point from their points deduction appeal, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Toffees aim to have their two-point deduction halved when the verdict of their appeal is announced.

The latest date the Premier League must reveal the verdict was 25 May, but they confirmed that the Merseysiders’ appeal will be heard before the last game of the season – 19 May.

Sean Dyche’s side were hit with a two-point deduction last Monday (8 April) after they breached the allowed losses threshold of £105million by £16.6million in the three-year period up until the 2022-23 season.

Everton hopeful of halving their two-point deduction on appeal

It is believed that Everton are hopeful of another successful appeal after their initial 10-point deduction from November was reduced to six.

Well-placed sources have also told Football Insider (14 April) that the club plan to use a double jeopardy defence in their second appeal as they believe that they have been penalised twice for the same offence in the same season.

While a potential reduction of their sanction could prove vital in their Premier League survival hopes this season, they may have another penalty on the horizon.

Everton’s recent accounts published on 31 March revealed a statutory loss of £89.1million for the 2022-23 season, meaning they may face a third charge unless they sanction significant player sales this summer.
