Everton in race with two CL giants for defender in form of his life – report

By Danny Wright

Everton are in the hunt to sign Middlesbrough defender Dael Fry, according to a report.

The Daily Mail claims that the Toffees are joined by Leicester and Champions League giants Chelsea and Manchester United in the race to snap up Fry, 20, after he was called up to the England Under-21 squad.

Fry has been in the form of his life for Boro this term and has become a regular part of Garry Monk’s defence at the Riverside, making 11 appearances across all competitions and starting in all but two of their Championship fixtures.

The defender has represented every youth level in the England set-up between Under-17 and Under-21, and was part of the Under-20 side that lifted the World Cup in South Korea over the summer.

He has spent his entire career with Middlesbrough, playing 21 times in total for the senior side, but has also had the experience of being sent out on loan when he was shipped out to Rotherham last season.

Football Insider Verdict

Fry looks like a really good talent but leaving Middlesbrough half way through the season will perhaps not be the best thing for him. Monk is playing him regularly and he cannot move away from getting so much senior football under his belt with a team like Boro, who should be pushing for promotion this term. However the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea may be too much to turn down for Fry, who has certainly proven himself to have the potential to be a good Premier League player in the future. Everton have made efforts to strengthen their Under-23 side recently, but it is unlikely Fry would be willing to drop down to reserve team football with him getting what he current does at Boro.
