Everton set for Anthony Gordon 'boost' after Sky update - expert

Anthony Gordon will be motivated to improve at Everton following summer interest from Chelsea.

That’s according to former Aston Villa and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the winger’s future.

As reported by Sky Sports on 23 August, Chelsea were prepared to pay £60million for the 21-year-old Toffees’ forward.

However, Gordon will remain at Goodison Park until at least January after a move to Stamford Bridge failed to materialise.

McLeish claims Chelsea’s interest has actually given Gordon a boost.

“There are a lot of players who get quoted £60million these days,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.

“Anthony Gordon is worth that much to Everton because of how well he has been playing this season, he has been crucial.

“£60million seems excessive for anybody, never mind Anthony. He has put in some brilliant performances in recent games, getting goals, creating.

“When that pressure is on you. You need to be able to step up and help your team even though people are talking about you.

“It might have been a boost for him, actually, having Chelsea coming after you. If you know a club like that is after you then you know you are doing something right.

“I think we have seen that in the last few games he has played.”

Gordon has three years left on his contract at Goodison Park after signing a five-year deal in 2020.

He has scored twice in the Premier League this season.
