Everton set for devastating 10-point deduction in total – sources
Everton are likely to be hit with a new four-point deduction from their second hearing for profit and sustainability breaches, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke claimed the Toffees are expected to face the same punishment as Nottingham Forest.
Both clubs have been charged with financial irregularities relating to their 2022-23 accounts, with Everton’s hearing by an independent commission into these breaches set to begin next week.
Forest were docked six points for exceeding their allowed losses over a three-year period by £34.5million on Monday (18 March), but this was reduced to four as they complied with the investigation.
Everton set to face another devastating points deduction
Sean Dyche’s side already faced a 10-point deduction in November for breaking profit and sustainability rules in the three-year period to 2021-22, but this was reduced to six on appeal last month.
Now, sources have told Football Insider that the Premier League will likely feel justified in handing the Toffees a new four-point deduction as it would bring them back to their initial 10-point punishment.
Everton are hopeful that they can avoid another sanction as two of the three years set to be assessed in their second hearing have already been punished.
The Premier League have committed to announce the Toffees’ charge by 8 April.
Everton have successfully climbed out of the relegation zone after their deduction plunged them to 19th, but another sanction will put their Premier League status under major threat.

Everton sit 17th in the Premier League table after an 11-game winless run stretching back to December.
After their 2-0 loss to Man United earlier this month (9 March), they are next in action against Bournemouth on 30 March after the international break.
