Expert: Everton set for transformation after Kevin Thelwell ally signs

Kevin Thelwell’s decision to reunite with Gareth Prosser at Everton will streamline processes behind the scenes at Finch Farm.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

As relayed by Training Ground Guru on Monday (20 June), Prosser has been appointed as Everton’s new academy director.

It represents the third time he and director of football Thelwell have worked together after spells at Derby County and Wolves.

Paul Tait meanwhile has been promoted to manager of the Toffees’ Under-21 side, while Leighton Baines has stepped into Tait’s shoes with the Under-18s.

Dinnery claims that the Thelwell-Prosser partnership bodes well as the Merseysiders look to implement “new philosophies” in their youth setup.

“You are getting exactly what it says on the tin with this sort of relationship,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“He knows the guy. He knows his strengths and the new philosophies he can implement. Inherently, if you’ve worked together three times, you must be fairly aligned with your own personal vision for taking the club forward.

“It expedites that process for implementing ideas and improving structures internally. I think in that regard, it is absolutely a good thing.”

Everton’s Under-23 side finished 11th in the Premier League 2 in 2021-22.

The division is set to become an under-21 competition ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
