Everton set to make David Moyes announcement after overnight twist – sources

Everton are in “advanced talks” to sensationally appoint David Moyes as their new manager, sources have told Football Insider.

Discussions were held on Thursday night and will continue into Friday morning over the 61-year-old returning to Goodison for a second spell.

Sources with knowledge of the discussions believe Moyes could reach a full agreement with Everton as early as Friday, with the expectation an announcement will be made by the end of the weekend.

Sean Dyche was sacked on Thursday (9 January) as he paid the price for Everton’s run of just one win from their last 11 games, leaving them a point above the Premier League relegation zone in 16th place.

Moyes is very keen to return to the club where he spent 11 very successful years in charge before leaving for Man United in 2013.

The Scot’s last job came at West Ham, where he managed around 260 games across two separate spells.

He achieved two top-seven finishes at the London Stadium and also won the Uefa Conference League, West Ham’s first major trophy since 1980.

Moyes could reach full Everton agreement on Friday

Moyes has taken charge of 697 Premier League games in total across spells with the Irons, Sunderland, Man United and Everton.

He achieved Champions League qualification during his previous spell at Goodison Park but will only be required to stave off the threat of relegation this term.

Everton move into their new state-of-the-art Bramley-Moore Dock stadium in time for the 2025-26 campaign and must remain in the top flight to reap the full financial benefits.
