Available for free, Everton to reignite move for PL 27-year-old after first bid collapsed - report
By Dominic Toner
Everton manager Ronald Koeman is eyeing a move for Southampton defender Cuco Martina, according to a report.
The Daily Star claim that the Toffees are considering a summer swoop for the 27-year-old, whose contract is set to expire in the summer.
The report details that the right-back is high on Koeman’s wishlist and that he failed to complete a deal for him last summer.
Martina has found himself fall down the pecking order this season at St Mary’s and has made just 18 senior appearances across all competitions.
The full-back, who will be available on a free this summer, is behind teammate Cedric at Southampton and has been omitted from the squad in recent months.

He could be set to leave the Saints in the summer when his contract expires and Koeman is planning a move for a player he has worked with before.
Everton have also lost their senior right-back Seamus Coleman to a serious leg break suffered on International duty and may need a replacement going into next season.
Football Insider verdict:
Koeman has enjoyed a fantastic first season at Everton and looks set to return European football to Goodison Park immediately, with fans becoming instantly attached to their new manager. The Toffees may look to bolster their defensive options in the summer and Southampton’s fringe player Martina is not a name that would jump straight to mind. The 27-year-old has been unable to establish himself in the Saints side and has played a bit-part role during his time in England. However, he could be available for a free transfer and this could be a smart piece of business by Koeman. Everton may need a short-term replacement for the injured Coleman and their manager may feel Martina has the skills to do so.
In other Everton transfer news, they have joined the race for Ross Barkley’s replacement.
