Everton star Conor Coady ‘fuming’ after ‘mad’ manager development – pundit
Everton star Conor Coady will be “fuming” that he isn’t playing for England ahead of Harry Maguire.
That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the defender’s chances of making an appearance at the World Cup.
Coady, 29, is currently out in Qatar but has not played in either of England’s two games so far.
Harry Maguire and John Stones have started against Iran and the USA with Eric Dier chosen to come off the bench for Maguire against Iran.
McAvennie can’t believe Coady isn’t being chosen to start.
“Coady should be starting for England ahead of Maguire,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Dier came on for Maguire the other day and Coady was just sitting there. Maguire hasn’t played all season and don’t get me started on Dier.
“Coady was fantastic at Wolves and he has been brilliant at Everton this season. I know Everton haven’t been great but it isn’t the defence that has been letting them down.
“I think he can feel really hard done by, to be honest. Not that the club will be too bothered, they will want him back home and fit in a few weeks’ time.
“I just look at that England team and think it’s crying out for Coady to go in there ahead of Maguire, it’s mad. Coady has been playing all season.
“It just makes sense. I would be fuming if I was him.”

On 6 October, The Athletic reported Everton have the option to sign Coady for just £4.5million next summer.
He has started all but one of Everton’s 13 league games this season.
