Everton star Jordan Pickford backed to join Premier League giants – ‘the only club he will move to’, says pundit

Frank McAvennie has claimed Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford could join Man United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said Pickford won’t be able to challenge for top spot at any of the “big” clubs.

The 28-year-old is out of contract in 2024 but has been linked with the likes of United, Tottenham and Chelsea in recent weeks.

But, as quoted by talkSPORT (23 December), Frank Lampard said Pickford is happy at Goodison Park and is “close” to signing a new deal.

The shot stopper has been attracting interest after an impressive World Cup for England which saw him finish joint top in the clean sheet standings.

Pickford also helped his side secure a 1-1 draw with Man City on Saturday (31 December).

But McAvennie claimed there is only one destination for the England international.

The only one I can see him going to is Man United,” he told Football Insider.

Everyone else has great keepers. He is not going to shift any of them.

I look at the big clubs and he is not going to go there. Everton is a massive club. He is getting worked more at Everton than he will anywhere else.

Man United

He could not go to Man City or Liverpool so Man United are probably the only option.

Why would you leave Everton to go to a smaller club? He is getting tested every week at Everton because they are not the best defenders in the world.
