Kieran Maguire certain Everton have ‘big sell-on clause’ in Small transfer to Southampton

Everton are likely to receive a “big sell-on clause” from Thierry Small’s transfer to Southampton.

So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Saints confirmed their capture of Small on 24 August.

This site revealed earlier that day that Southampton had won the race ahead of multiple Premier League clubs to sign the 17-year-old after he cancelled his scholarship at Everton.

It is understood that Everton could land up to £5milllion in compensation if the fee is resolved by a tribunal.

The two clubs do, however, have time to reach an agreement over a fee themselves before a tribunal date is set.

And Maguire details how Everton will likely be remunerated for the prodigious left-back’s development costs.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “In all probability, there will be a big sell-on clause involved in this to provide an element of protection for Everton.

There is effectively a set tariff under EPPP for the level of compensation that can be given. There are also tariffs set by FIFA for international transfers.

“They can be used as a framework for a domestic transfer should it go to some form of tribunal.

In all probability, there will be a big sell-on clause involved in this to provide an element of protection for Everton.

Small was aged 16 years and 176 days when he made his Toffees debut against Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup in January.

That makes him the youngest player in the club’s history.
