Everton ‘surprise’ after Tarkowski rages at Disasi in furious Chelsea incident

James Tarkowski was right to be unhappy with Axel Disasi after the Everton man clashed with his Chelsea counterpart at Goodison Park, according to Leon Osman.

In what was the first game after the Friedkin Group completed their long-awaited takeover of the Toffees, it was a relatively ever affair between the two sides and finished in a goalless draw.

One flashpoint did however come 54 minutes into the game, when Tarkowski went down under minor contact from Disasi as a deep cross was fired into the area.

With the Everton man remaining on the ground, the Chelsea centre-back appeared to brush his head with his leg as walked round him.

That prompted Tarkowski to leap to his feet and chase after Disasi, with the pair then exchanging shoves before the situation died down.

Speaking about the incident on world feed commentary, ex-Toffee Osman was surprised that more did not come from what happened, saying:

“James Tarkowski takes that tumble, there was contact, Disasi wasn’t looking, didn’t know. But I don’t think there’s an awful lot in that afterwards. I’ll have to see it again. Certainly words were said.

“Oh he just nudged past him seeing it again, you can see why James Tarkowski isn’t happy. There’s the tangle of legs and then he just nudges him in the head with his foot there, his shin, Disasi.

“Actually you do that kind of thing and you just catch someone in the head. I’m surprised there wasn’t more action.”

Football Insider Opinion

There is little surprise to see that being caught by Disasi in the aftermath of this incident led to something of a response from Tarkowski.

With the chance having come and gone there was nothing for the Chelsea man to gain from making contact with the Everton man as he moved back into position.

Such moments often lead to reactions from opposition players as happened here, although the fact Tarkowski reacted so quickly perhaps suggests he did not need to stay down anyway.

It is also worth noting that as a former Toffees player himself, Osman was perhaps always likely to side with the Englishman when giving his verdict on the incident.

Regardless of that, a goalless draw against a Chelsea side in such good form coming into this game can be considered a good result for Everton in spite of this.

As a result, that scoreline may be viewed as more vindication for the club’s new owners over their plan to back Sean Dyche for the time being.
