Everton takeover: 777 face new judgment within days – Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed 777 Partners face judgment over the seizure of assets in Belgium within days.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – warned Toffees fans against “jumping to conclusions” after the latest developments at Standard Liege.

According to Josimar (6 May), the two main creditors of 777 Partners in Belgium are asking for the seizure of all assets held in the country after the US-based investment company failed to respect payment deadlines.

The judgment could have huge implications for their takeover bid at Everton, which continues to falter with a final decision yet to be made by the Premier League.

777 agreed to buy Everton from Farhad Moshiri in September 2023 but has been waylaid by concerns over their sources of funding.

777 decision to come within days, says former Everton CEO

Wyness suggested a swift decision is incoming on 777’s investment in Belgium.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “There’s no doubt there is noise around 777 all the time.

“There has been a motion filed in Belgium to seize their assets. Whether they have grounds to do that or not, remains to be seen.

“What’s interesting is that the Belgian legal system moves very quickly, and it could only be 10 days until we get an adjudication from the authorities.

“The issue is around the purchase of Standard Liege, and the former owners of those assets are now filing a motion to get those assets back.

“There has been no judgment against 777. They work in a very litigious world.

“There are something like 18 lawsuits outstanding at the moment, and of course – it isn’t great to see that record.

“But we’ve got to be careful and look at the facts, before jumping to conclusions.”
