Everton takeover by Friedkin Group nears as Alan Myers told new update

The Friedkin Group are on track to complete their takeover of Everton by mid-December, Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers has said.

Back in September, the group – whose chairman Dan Friedkin also owns AS Roma – agreed to buy Farhad Moshiri’s 94% stake in the club. So far though, the takeover has not been officially confirmed.

There has also been a concern that a court case involving A-Cap, who have taken over the £200million debt owed by the Merseyside club to previous prospective buyers 777 Partners, after they were sued by British firm Leadenhall, could delay the takeover – A-Cap and 777 deny all wrongdoing.

However, responding to a question from a fan on the situation, Myers confirmed the court case will not impact an anticipation that the takeover will be completed by the middle of next month.

It was also noted that the process of approving the deal with the Premier League currently remains ongoing.

He wrote: “I’m told the expectation remains mid-December, and ACap court issue won’t affect that, PL process ongoing.”

The news that the Friedkin Group remain on course to complete their takeover will surely be welcomed by everyone around Goodison Park.

It has been a difficult period for the Toffees on and off the pitch, with a challenging financial situation leading to some uncertainty around the future.

Completing the takeover though, will hopefully provide much more stability for Everton, that allows them to look forward with optimism.

Indeed, if it is completed next month, then it may come in time for an influx of funds that allows the Toffees to be more active in the January transfer window.

Given it has been a tough start to the season for Sean Dyche’s side, which has led to some speculation around the 53-year-old’s position, that could be important for both him and club.

It could help to strengthen the squad and get them in a position to pick up more positive results, which might both secure their top-flight status, and the manager’s position.

With that in mind, this update from Myers on the takeover situation looks to be all-round good news for Everton.
