Everton takeover faces new delay – Stefan Borson

Everton prospective owner Dan Friedkin will find it “challenging” to be in place for the January transfer window.

That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that Premier League approval could come quickly but the US billionaire still needs to satisfy other conditions.

Borson told Football Insider (27 October) that Friedkin could be facing a delay in his takeover bid following the latest update in the Leadenhall case – which may mean he is waiting for a decision from the US court.

Everton confirmed last month that The Friedkin Group has agreed to purchase Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1 per cent stake in the club.

As well as court approval, he needs regulatory approval from the Premier League, the FA and the Financial Conduct Authority before he can finalise the takeover.

Friedkin may not be in place at Everton for January, says Borson

Borson admitted the American may not be in place to improve the squad in a hands-on role mid-season.

He told Football Insider: “Friedkin would like to strengthen the squad, but I suspect it’s going to be challenging for him to get in for January.

“We’re almost in November. I think the Premier League approval part could be coming quite quickly.

“With Man United, it took six weeks – even with the Christmas period in the middle of that.

“We’re coming up to that period with the Everton takeover.

“Of course, you’ve then got to deal with all the other issues.”
