Everton takeover: Keith Wyness reacts to ‘concerning’ Friedkin news from Italy
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Roma’s managerial mistakes will be a “concern” for Dan Friedkin as he prepares to take over on Merseyside.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed there is “something wrong with the process of hiring” within the US billionaire’s team in the Italian capital.
Claudio Ranieri has been appointed Roma’s third manager of the season by Friedkin, who owns the Italian outfit and is close to completing a takeover at Everton.
Ivan Juric was sacked on Sunday (10 November) after just ten games at the club, while Daniele De Rossi was dispensed with just four games into the 2024-25 campaign.
Ranieri retired at the end of last season but has returned to football to take the job at his hometown club for the third time.
‘Everton have their own history’ with manager fails after Roma latest, says Wyness
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I won’t say the Everton fans should be concerned about this.
“But certainly the Friedkins must be. They lost De Rossi early in the season, Juric after 12 weeks – they’re already looking for the third manager this season.
“There’s something wrong with the process of hiring.
“Everton have got its own history with mistaken manager appointments, we don’t want to jump from the frying pan into the fire.
“This is where a new CEO could come in at the same time and give them some knowledge about the UK game.
“I don’t know how the decision was made about Ivan Juric, or with De Rossi.
“But whatever it is, there is a very unsettled fanbase in Roma and they’ve got to be sure that the Ranieri hire is the correct decision.

“Friedkin and his son are heavily involved in trying to sort the Roma situation out.
“But they’ve got to leave it to people. The right sporting directors with the right knowledge.”
