Everton takeover: Keith Wyness reveals what his sources say about Dan Friedkin
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has hailed the work of potential new owner Dan Friedkin at Roma after speaking to his sources.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – revealed the American’s bid is his “personal favourite” and claimed an announcement will come very soon.
Multiple sources have claimed Roma owner Friedkin has agreed a deal with Everton majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri to buy the club and is set to enter a period of exclusivity.
The 59-year-old, who took over at the Italian side in 2020, has a reported net worth of £4.8billion.
He is now close to sealing a takeover at Goodison Park after moving in front of four rival bidders, including UK-based investment firm Vici Private Finance, MSP Sports Capital, local businessmen Andy Bell and George Downing – and a consortium involving a Saudi royal.
Friedkin’s Everton bid is ‘my personal favourite’ as announcement due soon, says Wyness
Wyness revealed Friedkin has “listened to good football people” and provided ample backing during his time at Roma.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It has emerged that Dan Friedkin has come to the fore.
“He was my personal favourite, I had done my research on his time at Roma through various sources – and it all came out really well.
“He actually sacked Mourinho at Roma, which gives him huge brownie points from me because I don’t rate how he keeps leaving clubs in the lurch.

“Friedkin has listened to good football people at Roma, he’s given them the right resources without being stupid – and he’s run the club very well, and that’s been reflected on the pitch.
“I was very pleased when I read him emerging as the preferred bidder. I expect a formal announcement very soon.”
