Everton takeover: Kieran Maguire drops stinging verdict after yet another twist
The “motivations” and “desire” of MSP Sports Capital are a concern as they inch closer to taking majority control at Everton.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that the governance and control at Everton has been “amateurish” which has left the club’s future ownership up in the air.
777 Partners are still working towards completing a takeover at Goodison Park after striking a £500million deal with Farhad Moshiri back in September.
The Premier League are ‘minded to approve’ their deal if they repay the club’s loans – including a £160million loan deal with MSP Sports Capital.
That particular agreement is secured against 51 percent of Moshiri’s stake, meaning MSP Sports Capital will take majority control of the club if it is not repaid by the deadline.
Everton warned about MSP ‘motivations’ as £160m takeover news breaks
According to The Telegraph, 777 Partners have secured a last-gasp extension to the loan repayment deadline that pushes it back by “weeks”.
Maguire believes the situation with MSP is “another sorry tale” derived from the poor senior-level management at Everton.
“Given the amateurish way that Everton have been managed at senior level in recent years, I suspect fans will probably see MSP as a more positive alternative than Moshiri or 777 Partners,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“At the same time, not a huge amount is known about MSP.

“Their motivations aren’t clear, and it is not known whether they have the resources or the desire to run a flagship club such as Everton in the Premier League.
“So it’s just another sorry tale about the club’s lack of governance and control at the top.“
