Everton takeover: New buyer ready to hijack 777 deal ‘very quickly’ – Wyness

Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has suggested two US-based groups are waiting in the wings to buy the club and could complete a deal “very quickly”.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the drawn-out 777 Partners takeover process will “hamper” the club in the transfer market.

777 struck £500million takeover agreement with chairman Farhad Moshiri in September, but concerns over their sources of funding have delayed Premier League approval.

According to investigative outlet Josimar (23 March), the Miami-based group must convert more than £300million worth of loans into equity and provide proof of funding for the stadium – as well as funds for this season’s running costs – before the deal is approved.

777 Partners have already provided several loans to Everton for running costs and a new agreement will take the total amount owed north of £200million.

Two more groups could seal ‘very quick’ Everton takeover if 777 bid fails

But Wyness claimed an outside group could seal a deal “very quickly” if they have “strong financial credentials”.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “This is the prime time now to complete a takeover.

“You’re trying to get yourself in place and approved before the start of the transfer window.

“That’s normally what you try and do. At Villa, the new owners were approved with four weeks left of the window – and it does hamper you.

“Now is a crucial time.

“The rumours are still very strong about two more potential buyers from the US. If they are credible, with strong financial credentials – it could be a very quick process.”
