Everton tipped to appoint ‘superb’ manager after journalist’s Lampard update – pundit
Frank Lampard could bring “fresh ideas” to Everton if he is chosen to fill the managerial vacancy at Goodison Park, according to Kevin Phillips.
The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 43-year-old was “unlucky” to be sacked by former club Chelsea.
According to The Telegraph‘s Jason Burt (20 January), Lampard, Wayne Rooney and Fabio Cannavaro are on the shortlist to succeed Rafa Benitez.
In the meantime, Duncan Ferguson has been appointed caretaker boss at Goodison Park for the second time in just over two years.
Phillips claimed Lampard would be a “superb appointment”.
“I think he would be a great appointment, to be honest,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s someone who knows the Premier League – he knows this league inside out, and he was obviously one of the best to play in it.
“He showed his managerial credentials and was very unlucky to lose his job at Chelsea – where he managed big names.
“I think he’d have no problems going in at Everton. He’s young, he’ll bring some fresh ideas – so I personally think that would be a superb appointment.”
Lampard was sacked as Chelsea boss in January 2021 following a run of poor form.
The former England midfielder also took charge at Championship side Derby during the 2018-19 season.

Everton sit 16th in the Premier League, just four points clear of the drop zone.
Their next top-flight engagement comes against relegation-threatened Newcastle.
In other news, Phillips has issued a ‘100 per cent’ Everton claim as manager news confirmed.
